Yeng Chheangly

Mr. Chheangly YENG is from a farmer family in Kandal province. His father passed away at the end of 2008, leaving his mother with three brothers and two sisters, and he is the fifth child in the family. In high school, he enrolled in a short-course training provided by the Rural Poet Association and the Khmer Writers' Association under the reign of Professor You Bo (passed away). The training course offer Chheangly the basics of Khmer poetry and novels. After received his high school diploma in 2007, Chheangly pursued higher education in Phnom Penh, majoring in "Management" at the University of Human Resources. In college, after work and study, He regularly attended free workshops organized by the Nou Hach Literary Association, Pen Cambodia, and the Writing Exchange Program with Overseas Writers organized by the US Embassy in Cambodia. Despite his participation in local training, he also attended literary seminars and forums in some countries in Southeast Asia and Europe.

In 2016, from the field of writing and volunteer work with Khmer and foreign poets he has encountered, Mr. Yeng Chheangly collaborated with a group of awarded poets to compile a book of modern poetry in two languages (Khmer and English) entitled In the Shadow, which was published with the help of the Nou Hach Literary Association. His short story Learn... Eyes on the Neck is published in the 2016 series of short stories called Vitheavy 2016 and has been translated into Japanese. Poems of Strobe Lights and a recycle collector were also published in English in the book entitled Modern Literature of Cambodia. Also, one of his short stories: What is it for? And a poem of Strobe Lights was featured in a book entitled Perjuangan Bangsa Dalam Puisi Dan Syair Asean, a collection of ASEAN poems published during his participation at the Kuala Lumpur Art Festival in Malaysia. In early 2019, 10 out of a hundred of poems he wrote from 2012 to 2017 were selected for the Biennale of Asian Poetry, published at the Asian Poetry Festival in New Delhi, India, by the Raza Foundation at the Indian International Center. Lately, one of his fresh short stories entitled To Somony, my dear was published in a collection of short stories called Money’s slave by Mengly J. Quach University Press.

To fulfill his passion for writing and compiling, in early 2018, he joined the publishing house of Mengly J. Quach University in the role of editor.
